Forgiveness interface design was the concept this waterheater.
In 2005 Toshiba Thailand initiated a design project with REDEX to design the manual and digital water heater for Southeast Asian market. From the field research, the team uncovered the insight where users were unhappy with duration it took the water to be heated. Unlike the boilder unit waterheater in general required time to be heated due to it’s technical heating process, therefore the approach of the design is to communicate the limitation of the machine yet intuitively convey relevent information.
Simplified info through iconic shape of thermometer. The single knob controller’s Interface and the light indicator designed to mimic the function of thermometer and how it communicates temperature. The gesture of turning the knob while light indicator move up the desirable temperature are the attemp to encourage forgiveness of the product performance.
